Project Description
DRT provides public health, technology, data, communications, and visualization support to enhance the government’s ability to use public health data to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems. This includes designing and developing application and database solutions. In addition, this team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques to enhance safety research and recommendation efforts across the country.
Job Summary
A R subject matter expert (SME) is needed for training in R for staff (via series of virtual sessions) in the Virgin Islands Department of Health Epidemiology Division. The Division relies on R as its primary coding language for data analysis and dashboard development. R is being used in developing the public-facing dashboard. The agency requires this training to build the capacity of additional staff, ensuring they gain the necessary skills to effectively use R for ongoing projects. This will enhance the sustainability of the agency’s initiatives by reducing dependency on a few experts and empowering more team members with the ability to manage and analyze public health data independently and contribute to ongoing development and sustainability of dashboard projects. The training will strengthen the agency's technical capabilities and contribute to more efficient, long-term operations.
Responsibilities
DRT offers full-time benefit eligible employees a competitive total compensation package. Responsibilities
- Identify suitable training objectives
- Prepare and lead training on R
- Develop the agency's ability to analyze public health data - confidently perform data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization tasks using R
- Develop the agency's ability to develop and maintain dashboards - staff will be capable of maintaining existing dashboards
- Develop the agency's ability to sustain and scale ongoing public health projects using R In all, the training will strengthen the technical capabilities of the team, ensuring they can handle current and future data-related challenges.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government
- At least five years of experience supporting public health data projects
- At least seven years’ experience working in R
- Prior experience developing and conducting training
- Must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Must be well-organized, proactive, and works well in a team-setting
- Skilled in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborators
- Skilled in translating public health information, data, and concepts to functional technical requirements
- None
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, data, statistics, or a related field; Masters preferred
- $85,000-120,000
- Salary commensurate with experience.
