What are the responsibilities and job description for the Router position at DS Bus Lines Inc.?
The Routing Specialist is responsible for maintaining and operating routing software, including data entry, reporting, and route optimization. This role involves coordinating and evaluating transportation needs for both regular and special education students, ensuring safe and efficient school bus route planning. The Routing Specialist serves as a liaison among parents/guardians, schools, and the Company to address transportation needs and may drive school buses on a relief basis. Pay range is $21.00-$24.00 based on experience.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize advanced routing software to ensure timely updates, accuracy, and optimization of school bus routes.
- Plan, coordinate, and adjust transportation routes for regular and special education students based on curriculum changes, student needs, or unexpected circumstances.
- Develop and implement routing solutions to ensure the safe, efficient transport of students to and from school and school events.
- Act as a liaison between parents/guardians, schools, and drivers, communicating transportation policies and updates effectively.
- Enter and monitor routing and student data in the transportation system, ensuring accuracy for all reports and records.
- Maintain and update files for special education students, including transportation needs and driver assignments.
- Create and distribute detailed route itineraries, summaries, and quick-access route information for drivers, schools, and dispatch teams.
- Assist in training school bus drivers, particularly on routing systems and special education transportation requirements.
- Support dispatch operations, including managing two-way communication systems and responding to on-the-ground issues.
- Evaluate and resolve complaints or issues related to regular, special education, and kindergarten routing with professionalism and efficiency.
- Assist with route bidding processes and contribute to system improvement initiatives.

A strong communicator with excellent organizational skills, able to navigate complex transportation needs while maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
