RESPONSIBILITIES:   The Stacker Operator is responsible for performing efficiently and safely all activities associated with the stacking equipment and helping dry end operators with setup, operation, cleanup and recommending improvements to operations.  To achieve this level of operations all employees are required to comply with all applicable Plant and OSHA safety rules.  

NORMAL DUTIES include the following.

  • Keep machine running ensuring order quality by checking each load for:
    • Warp, wrinkles, bond, or other quality problems
  • Review the run sheet for
    • Size, color, flute changes
    • Special unit counts and heights
    • Coating orders
    • Tear tape
    • Auxiliary set ups
    • Narrow and wide trim
  • Notify control room about problems
  • Record caliper of sheet at each grade change
  • Communicate with tally regarding:
    • Sorting out bad board
    • Number of stacks tied
    • Possible fall over loads before they discharge
  • Tie in multiple outs when possible
  • Clear jam ups
  • Fill out stacker checklist for each order
  • Proper maintenance reporting using work order procedure
  • Request help from the Dry End Assistant when necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have demonstrated the ability to perform each normal duty satisfactory in this classification and all lower classifications in this line of progression.  Also, the ability to learn to perform the normal duties in the next classification in this line of progression.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

License: Employee must have successfully completed the appropriate training programs for the operation of powered industrial trucks.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, factory orders, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure (English and Metric systems), using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to read an English and Metric system tape measure.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform normal job functions.

While performing the duties of this job, an individual is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  An individual frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  An individual must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the normal job functions.

While performing the duties of this job, an individual regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  An individual is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and temperature variations.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
