What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor - Evening Shift position at DS Smith?
The Chip Mill / Utility Supervisor will provide leadership, training, and development to hourly personnel by managing the process flow, resources, and workforce to meet and exceed established budgets and performance objectives.
- Promote the safety culture by ensuring all safety procedures are followed and employees are properly counselled when failing to adhere to these procedures.
- Ensure employees always wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Coach and mentor Chip Mill / Utility Team to ensure the safe performance of their job duties.
- Ensure the successful conclusion of Chip Mill and clean-up operations each day and report any issues that could affect operations the following day. Complete a daily turnover email.
- Manage Chip Mill operation to produce in-specification quality chips
- Ensure non-conforming Sawmill Pulp wood is recovered and fed into the Chip Mill.
- Give directive and assist with clean-up to ensure daily task are completed.
- Complete the Daily, Weekly, & Monthly Supervisor’s Inspection Checklists
- Write work orders for equipment in need of repair – both emergency repair and work needing to be scheduled.
- Ensure employees turn in all required paperwork at the end of their respective shifts. This includes production forms, down time forms, and other necessary documentation.
- Down time exceeding two hours is to be reported to the Mill Manager.
- Ensure company policy on accidents and injuries is followed, documented, and communicated immediately to the Mill Manager, Operation Manager and the Safety Manager.
- Inspect the Chip Mill daily – Debarking Drum, Chain Conveyors, Chipper, Screw Auger, Bark Belt Conveyors, 1225 Chips Accept Conveyor, and Shaker Screens. Issue work orders to maintain Mill Availability at better than 92%.
