Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer for a hybrid 12-month Contract-to-Hire role in Reston, VA. This is a hands-on development and API-focused position involving IBM APIC, DataPower, Node.js, Python, and AWS API Gateway. Ideal candidates will be local to the DMV area and have strong full-stack development experience with an emphasis on API integration and cloud-based platforms.

Senior Software Developer – Node.js / IBM APIC / DataPower

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and support high-performing software applications for enterprise-scale systems
• Develop and maintain APIs using IBM API Connect, AWS API Gateway, and DataPower
• Contribute to DevOps pipelines using Jenkins and scripting languages (Python/Bash)
• Participate in system analysis, interface design, and software development lifecycle
• Review API specifications, ensure compliance with governance standards
• Provide support during production releases and troubleshoot critical application issues
• Lead documentation efforts and contribute to API governance and lifecycle automation
• Collaborate across teams to identify and implement performance and security improvements
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in architecture discussions and roadmap planning
  
  

Requirement Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (or 4 additional years of experience in lieu)
• 5 years of experience in software development, coding, SDLC, and API design
• Strong hands-on experience in:
• Node.js, Python (mandatory)
• IBM DataPower v10, IBM API Connect v10
• AWS API Gateway, IBM Cloud SaaS Platform
• Jenkins scripting
• Java, Bash/Shell (preferred)
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, REST services, and DevOps best practices
• Experience with Open API Specifications, OAuth, JWT, and containerization (e.g., Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with databases: Oracle, DB2, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
  

Additional Information

• Hybrid role: Must be in DMV area to attend in-office meetings 1–2 times/month (could increase)
• USC or Green Card holders only (No H1B/CPT/OPT)
• Interview process: 1st round virtual, 2nd round onsite
