Description
The Estimator/Planner position supports customer service, estimating, R&D, problem-solving, production planning, and purchasing. The E/P estimates folding carton production jobs using available equipment resources and manufacturing capabilities while using the most cost-efficient layouts possible.
The E/P plans production runs using the established, agreed-upon cost estimate to ensure that the company’s goals and client’s objectives are achieved on time and within budget.
The E/P will prepare estimates for potential jobs as well as plan jobs and assist in procuring the necessary materials and outside resources required to produce the jobs. The E/P will also ensure proper coordination of internal and external resources so that projects and jobs are produced and delivered according to schedules/deadlines, budgets, and our high-quality standards. As a subject area expert, the E/P will advise sales and internal team members on the proper materials and production procedures needed to successfully complete jobs and projects.
The E/P will work in a fast-paced environment that requires collaborative people skills, excellent time management, problem-solving, challenge/risk mitigation, and the ability to work effectively while under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, review, and confirm specifications included in requests for quotes and other pricing requests
- Use estimating tools (software, standards, etc.) to compile estimated costs that are accurate, competitive for the customer and profitable for the company
- Plan press layouts and finishing production methods for estimates and production runs of jobs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and outside resource partners to obtain competitive pricing for paper, shipping cases, supplies, services, etc.
- Collaborate with sales, production, and management to resolve challenges or issues related to producing jobs
- Will create, plan, and distribute manufacturing work orders (job tickets) that contain specific, pertinent, and detailed information on how to produce the job from receipt of art to final delivery
- Keep apprised of production trends, new equipment, raw material prices, vendor capabilities/rates
- Continuous multi-tasking and managing several jobs/projects simultaneously at various stages with changing priorities and requirements
- Continuously identify and facilitate the implementation of cost-saving and efficiency improvements
- Track job costs in relationship to the cost estimate and alert management of any cost anomalies
- Special projects as assigned by management. Example projects - process improvement, R&D, business development, new product development/management.

Skills & Abilities
- Must be very familiar with printing, die cutting, and folding carton equipment (running speeds, equipment capabilities, efficiencies, paper performance/pricing, etc.) and knowledgeable in all phases of production (pre-press, press, finishing, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Able to effectively communicate with all departments
- Be able to perform multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment with the ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
- Strong mathematical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), knowledge of Mac OS and AutoCAD would be desirable
- Is highly organized and possesses excellent follow-up skills with the ability to respond quickly to changes in the project/job specifications and production schedule
- Exceptional attention to detail is essential as well as a keen eye for print detail and color
- Must be very responsive with internal customers at all levels; builds and maintains relationships by using a consultative approach
Experience:
- 6 years of printing and/or folding carton packaging industry experience in one or more of the following roles: Project Coordination, Customer Service, Estimating, Purchasing or Planning
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- More extensive work experience in place of a degree will also be considered
- Experience in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, Material Requirements, Production Methods, Planning and BOM’s
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Photoshop Illustration, InDesign, and AutoCAD is desirable
- Strong history and experience using communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills

Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
