What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Construction Manager (FCM) – T&D/Substation Projects position at DST ENGINEERS?
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Construction Manager (FCM) to oversee Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and Substation projects for Avangrid in the Greater Upstate NY area. The FCM will ensure that all construction activities comply with Avangrid’s processes, quality standards, and safety protocols, working closely with multiple contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Oversight & Field Coordination
- Manage and oversee daily construction activities for T&D and Substation projects, ensuring compliance with Avangrid's engineering and safety standards.
- Ensure that all contractors adhere to project schedules, budgets, and scope requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, procurement, and permitting departments to maintain workflow efficiency.
Contractor Management & Quality Assurance
- Conduct field inspections, audits, and quality checks to ensure work meets Avangrid’s specifications and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee subcontractors and line contractors, ensuring adherence to construction drawings and specifications.
- Enforce safety standards in accordance with OSHA, NESC, and Avangrid’s EHS protocols.
Technical & Software Utilization
- Utilize Fulcrum for real-time construction progress tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Review and approve Line Contractors’ Payment Workbooks, ensuring accuracy in labor, material costs, and work completion.
- Work with Maximo, Primavera P6, and SAP for work order management, scheduling, and financial tracking.
- Interface with GIS platforms for asset tracking and network design coordination.
- Use SharePoint and Smartsheets for project documentation, reporting, and team collaboration.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Provide regular project updates to the project management team and internal stakeholders.
- Resolve field-related issues and conflicts with contractors, engineers, and procurement teams.
- Participate in weekly construction meetings, progress reviews, and safety briefings.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in T&D or Substation construction management.
- Strong understanding of NESC, NEC, and IEEE standards.
- Experience working with Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), EPC contractors, or major energy companies.
- Proficiency in Fulcrum, Primavera P6, Maximo, GIS platforms, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Knowledge of utility permitting processes and local regulatory compliance.
Preferred:
- Previous experience working on Avangrid projects.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or PMP certification.
- Experience with storm hardening and grid modernization projects.
Work Environment & Travel Requirements
- On-site field presence is required with periodic office-based coordination.
- Travel within the Greater Upstate NY area as per project demands.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to work in outdoor conditions.
