$500 Travel Allowance Experience. The Contractor shall have twenty-four months of experience outside of the clinical rotation, with a minimum of twelve (12) months in the following specialties: general blood gas laboratory management (change out of reagents, quality assurance, quality control analyzing, analyzing patient specimens etc.), ventilator experience with neonates, pediatric across to geriatric patients, emergency/trauma care, these are required for the contract, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer after communicating with the department Supervisor's concurrence. License/Registration. All Respiratory Therapists shall be board certified/registered or and possess a current, valid, unrestricted license in any state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract. Certifications. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is mandatory.

• The contract Respiratory Therapist must have more than a year and half (1.5) of direct care in the following areas: a. Pediatrics - Management of Ventilator at a Level II b. Neonatal - Management of Ventilators at a Level II c. Adult ICU - Ventilator Management - Level II d. Level II Emergency/Trauma e. Operation of arterial blood gas analyzers, performs patient arterial punctures, analyzing and interpretation f. Medical/Surgical care of young adults, adults and geriatric patients g. General floor care. h. Floor to floor and ground transports. i. Electrocardiograms j. Pulmonary Function Testing k. Competence in respiratory medications.
• The Contractor (Respiratory Therapist) shall be responsible for monitoring all respiratory modalities of therapy. Must communicate patient assessments, treatments, laboratory results and any problems directly related to the patient(s) with the attending physician and/or nursing staff. This communication will be done verbally and/or through clear, sound, readable documentation.
• The RT shall provide care with competent knowledge in the field of Respiratory Therapy. The services are listed below but their services are not limited to this list. These services will be applied to patients of all age groups, from neonate to geriatric patients. These services will be performed in a timely manner, with quality, respect and professionalism. Each Respiratory Therapist is required to carry a beeper throughout their shift, a means of communication/contact.
• RTs must abide to Standard Precautions. NNMC provides Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the contract employee is required to utilize the equipment for their protection. If any type of training is required for proper use of PPE the contractor is expected to attend the training. Respiratory Duties/practice are as follows but not limited to this list: a. Oxygen administration using all the devices available, such as nasal cannula, simple masks, ventri-masks, partial rebreather, aerosol mask, oxyhoods, infant incubators etc. b. Basic life support of all age specific patients. c. Initial set-up of ventilators. Ventilator management of adult, pediatric, neonatal and geriatric patients. Ventilation of patients with known diseases such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, Adult respiratory distress syndrome etc. Thorough documentation on ventilator supported patients will be completed every 2 hours including the completion of the flowsheet for the ventilator. Documentation on patient care will be done with every contact of the patient. d. Assists with intubation of patients of all ages. e. Proper care of endotracheal tubes and trach tubes. Including the use of a cuff monitor, NEVER MLT. f. Weaning patients from ventilators and recording weaning measurements. g. Extubation of patients of all age groups. h. Competent knowledge of Respiratory pharmacology is a requirement. i. Nebulized treatments via small volume and large volume units. Having competent knowledge of all Respiratory medications, their positive effects, adverse effects and proper doses and mixing are a must. j. Metered dose inhaler/spacer administration the effects of metered dosed medications, frequencies of administration and duration of medication's effects. k. IPPB treatments using medication with proper education to patients to eliminate fear of the procedure. I. BiPAP/CPAP administration and proper fit of nasal masks and full facemasks. m. Proper suctioning technique of patients on ventilators and those patients who are not on ventilators who need nasopharyngeal/oral suctioning. n. Comfort care provided with respect to patients who are nearing their time of death. o. Obtain sputum samples either naturally, by induction, or suction. p. Performs arterial punctures using proper technique and correct transporting blood products. q. Analyzing arterial blood gases and interpretation. r. Obtaining venous blood gases from Swan-Gang and capillary samples from neonate and Pediatric patients. s. Complete understanding, knowledge and application of chest physiotherapy t. Peak flow monitoring of patients. u. Proper use of oximeter and capnography on all age groups. v. Performs electrocardiograms on all age groups. w. Capable of setting-up cardio stress test patients. x. Prepares patients for echocardiogram. y. Maintains all respiratory equipment for future use by testing, cleaning and calibration. z. 26. Adheres to The Joint Commission (TJC) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CUA) standards in care of patients, equipment and blood gas laboratory. aa. Clearly educates and instructs patients/family followed by documentation of contact. bb. The Respiratory Therapist must be knowledgeable and capable of performing in trauma life and death situations, critically ill, high risk patients and disaster situations. cc. NNMC utilizes electronic health record for charting and handwritten charting when necessary. The RT must adhere to all Joint Commission standards and policy and procedures for full assessments. Monitoring effects of a patient's response to care given, all pertinent information pertaining to the care of the patient and any contact will be documented. dd. Therapist is required to fulfill all physician's documented orders for patients under the care of Respiratory Therapy. ee. The Respiratory Therapist must be capable of performing Respiratory duties in an in- patient and out-patient setting. This department does a lot of walking to perform duties.in the out-patient setting.
