What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at DTM Executive Search, Inc.?
Immediate need for an Automotive Dealership Controller with to oversee multiple OEM stores. The Controller will oversee and maintain the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of numerous new car dealerships / stores. This includes preparing and reviewing intercompany schedules and OEM financial statements in accordance GAAP and OEM requirements. Additional duties include maintaining rigid controls over Company’s assets and expenditures. This is a very hands-on position that is responsible for the operation of all accounting related features of the new car dealerships / stores. The Controller identifies problem areas and opportunities for improved cash flow and profitability and provides timely, accurate reporting, to senior management.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the timely and accurate preparation and submission of monthly financials statement prepared by the store controllers in accordance with GAAP and OEM reporting requirements
- Manage several new car store controllers to include the oversight of (assistant controllers / office managers) human resources and payroll. Oversee and approve pay plans, commission / bonuses and employee benefits costs.
- Review accounting schedules, sales journal and ensure that all general ledger accounts and manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection, and co-op advertising are current and accurate.
- Review reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, reserve accounts, factory payables, and floor plan payables, and verifies accuracy of reconciliations with outside sources
- Manage DMS setups, software upgrades and projects with OEMs per DMS contract requirements. Update and review dealership required documentation with legal team in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Interpret financial statements and daily operating control (DOC) reports regularly and informs senior management of developing trends
- Participates in the preparation of short-term and long-term financial forecasts for the region through weekly management meetings
- Supervise the preparation of all information provided to external third parties (auditors / tax regulatory bodies etc.) to ensure accuracy of information provided and minimal exposure
- Coordinate and manage the implementation and upgrades of hardware and software vendors with corporate IT department. Track and renew vendor contracts, agreements and required dealership licenses for stores in your region
- Oversee the hiring, training and management of all regional accounting personnel.
- Continually strives to improve data integrity and information reporting to executive leadership
