TITLE: Bus Mechanic Helper -Transportation
JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation
DEPARTMENT: Business Operations
POSITION SUMMARY: To keep the district’s cars and buses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
- A proficiency in repair and maintenance of buses, trucks, and other automotive equipment.
- Previous mechanical experience.
- An ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assists the repairing of district transportation equipment.
- Assists Head Mechanic in maintenance of a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists Head Mechanic in establishing an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
- Fills out records of maintenance and repair work.
- Maintains high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
- Reports all conditions that present safety hazards on buses and other automotive equipment immediately to the Head Mechanic.
- Performs snow and ice removal as needed at the transportation complex.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
- Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays and salary as determined by Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board.
SALARY: starting hourly rate: $20.42/HR. - $23.63/HR.
