POSITION SUMMARY:
The EL Coordinator will supervise, develop and evaluate programs and services geared to meeting the needs of English Learners.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of related teaching and administrative experience including supervisory responsibilities.
- Valid State Board of Education license in EL/TESOL and/or Principal certificate/license.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with all levels of district staff, students, parents and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills
- Computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents and reports.
- Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner.
- Skilled in developing, implementing and evaluating EL programs, instructional strategies and educational materials and technology.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in intercultural and interpersonal relations.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Collaboratively works with school administrators and EL staff to coordinate programs and services for English Learners.
- Manages the identification, assessment and placement of EL students.
- Works closely with the special education department to coordinate program and service delivery and ensure all students receive appropriate educational and support services.
- Provides assistance and guidance to staff who are engaged in instruction of EL students.
- Ensures departmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates on-going development opportunities that align with district strategies and objectives.
- Assists school administrators in implementing EL plans.
- Plans, coordinates and conducts staff development activities ensuring that instructional needs of the building are addressed.
- Prepares completion of required documentation and reports.
- Works cooperatively with district administrators, staff, parents, community agencies and others on matters related to the district’s English Learner’s instructional programs/curriculum as well as particular concerns.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community agencies to coordinate development and delivery of services provided to EL students and their families.
- Promotes positive community relations by clearly communicating messages to parents and members of the community; responding to parental and community inquiries in a timely and courteous manner, and maintaining visibility with students, parents and the community.
- Resolves problems, situations or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous and respectful manner.
- Maintains knowledge of current state and Federal mandates related to instruction of EL students.
- Represents the EL Program at district committee meetings and events; performs related tasks. Ensures the safety of students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
- Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
