DuBois Integrity Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Elective Teacher to empower students with academic strategies, organizational skills, and college-readiness tools. This role is essential in fostering a growth mindset, academic excellence, and social-emotional learning among students in the AVID program.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support:
- Implement the AVID curriculum with fidelity, ensuring students develop strong writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) skills.
- Provide structured support to students through note-taking, time management, and study strategies to improve academic performance across all subjects.
- Facilitate collaborative group tutorials, ensuring students engage in critical thinking and problem-solving discussions.
- Cultivate a college-going culture by exposing students to various post-secondary pathways, career exploration, and goal-setting strategies.
- Establish high expectations and maintain a classroom environment that promotes active learning, student engagement, and peer collaboration.
Program Coordination & Leadership:
- Work closely with AVID site team members, general education teachers, and school leadership to align AVID strategies across all subject areas.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and faculty, ensuring students receive the necessary academic and social-emotional support.
- Organize and lead college and career exploration activities, including guest speakers, field trips, and mentorship opportunities.
- Support and mentor AVID student leaders, fostering self-advocacy, leadership, and community engagement.
Professional Growth & Compliance:
- Participate in AVID professional learning opportunities, including district training, summer institutes, and professional development sessions.
- Maintain accurate student progress records, conduct assessments, and report data as required by the school and AVID program.
- Uphold school and district policies while fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification (or eligibility for certification).
- AVID training or willingness to complete AVID Summer Institute and ongoing AVID professional development.
Skills & Competencies:
- Passion for student success and equity in education.
- Strong instructional skills with experience in inquiry-based learning and student-centered instruction.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
- Proficiency in technology and digital learning tools that support AVID strategies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous AVID teaching experience or participation in an AVID program.
- Experience with middle school students, particularly in a diverse and dynamic learning environment.
- Background in college and career readiness initiatives.
