Reports To: Coordinator of Student Services / Principals

Location: DuBois Integrity Academy

Job Summary: The Middle School Special Education Instructional Coach will work closely with educators to enhance the instructional practices, strategies, and interventions used to support students with disabilities. This role involves providing coaching, modeling, professional development, and support to teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff members in the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), differentiated instruction, and best practices for supporting diverse learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coaching & Mentoring:
    • Provide individualized coaching and support to special education teachers to improve instructional strategies, classroom management, and student engagement.
    • Model effective teaching practices, including differentiation, behavior management, and accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.
    • Offer ongoing support for teachers in implementing IEPs and providing personalized learning experiences for students with special needs.
  2. Professional Development:
    • Design and deliver professional development sessions focused on best practices in special education, instructional strategies, and the use of data to inform teaching.
    • Stay current on new research, tools, and methods for supporting students with disabilities and share these resources with staff.
    • Facilitate collaborative learning opportunities for teachers, including workshops, peer observations, and professional learning communities.
  3. Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with general education teachers, school administrators, and other staff members to ensure effective inclusion and support for students with disabilities in the classroom.
    • Assist in developing and reviewing IEPs, ensuring that they are appropriately implemented and aligned with the goals and objectives outlined for students.
    • Support the coordination of services for students with disabilities, including working with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to ensure integrated service delivery.
  4. Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring:
    • Help teachers analyze student performance data, identify trends, and implement strategies to address learning gaps.
    • Assist in developing and tracking measurable academic and behavioral goals for students with disabilities.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of instructional practices and interventions, adjusting as necessary to improve student outcomes.
  5. Resource Development:
    • Develop and provide instructional resources, strategies, and tools to help teachers effectively meet the needs of students with disabilities.
    • Advocate for and assist in the selection of instructional materials, technology, and other resources that support differentiated learning.
  6. Family & Community Engagement:
    • Build relationships with families of students with disabilities and collaborate with them to support students’ academic and social progress.
    • Encourage and support schools in establishing partnerships with local community organizations and resources to enhance services for students with disabilities.
  7. Compliance & Reporting:
    • Ensure that special education services meet state and federal regulations, including compliance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
    • Assist with documentation and reporting requirements related to special education, including progress monitoring and IEP implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in special education.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in special education, including direct classroom experience.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and differentiated instruction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with data analysis, progress monitoring, and using assessment tools to inform instruction.
  • Coaching or mentoring experience is highly preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Work hours align with the school day, with additional time for professional development and planning as needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required for district-wide meetings or professional development opportunities.

Salary:

  • Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
