Description:
Responsible for working as a member of the teaching team to plan and implement activities in the Head Start classroom.
This is a part-year position with various mandatory non-work weeks throughout the school year working approximately 40 weeks per year.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in the planning and coordinating the classroom.
- Ensure that all classroom activities are carried out on a daily basis.
- Ensure that classroom activities are developmentally appropriate and carried out according to Head Start program philosophy, policies and procedures.
- Participate and Encourage parents to participate in curriculum planning and program development.
- Plan with parents and team members to ensure that daily personal hygiene of the children are met
- Ensure that the planning and involvement of children occur in the preparation of nutritious snacks and cleanup of eating area.
- Provide for the constant supervision for all children.
- Abide by State Licensing requirements.
- Participate in the development of an IEP of children diagnosed with disabilities.
- Utilize technology to enhance and increase efficiency within job responsibilities.
- Collaborate with others to support literacy development at home and in Head Start settings.
- Maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family information.
- Encourage parent and community volunteerism and participate in other activities to generate in-kind.
- This position requires occasionally filling in for other teachers, possibly at another site.
- Other duties as requested by Site Supervisor, Education & Disabilities Manager, Head Start Director, and the Executive Director and/or other members of the Head Start Leadership.
- The Assistant Teacher must have a minimum of High School Diploma or GED, and be currently enrolled in: a Child Development Associate (CDA) to be completed within 2 years of date of hire, OR a program leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Assistant Teacher must have one-year experience working with children age’s three to five in a preschool setting.
- Obtain a Teaching Strategies Gold Preschool/Pre-K Interrater Reliability Certification and maintain recertification.
- Obtain and/or Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
