Sales Associate I – Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Location: Dubuque, IA

Reports To: ReStore Manager
Schedule: Must be available to work every Saturday
Position Overview
The Sales Associate plays a key role in delivering an outstanding customer experience at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This position is responsible for assisting customers, processing sales transactions, merchandising products, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe retail environment. The Sales Associate will support the ReStore's mission of generating revenue to help build and repair homes in the community.
This role requires a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner
- Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system
- Answer phones promptly and direct calls or take messages as needed
Merchandising & Store Presentation
- Clean and organize the sales floor, restrooms, windows, shelves, and other customer-facing areas
- Clean and prepare donated and purchased merchandise for display
- Price small items appropriately; assist with pricing larger items under direction of the Assistant Manager
- Reorganize aisles and shelves to maintain attractive and accessible displays
Inventory & Operations
- Assist in lifting and moving large donations such as furniture, doors, and appliances
- Help receive, organize, and restock incoming inventory
- Maintain a safe and clutter-free environment for customers, staff, and volunteers
Team Support & Flexibility
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Support volunteers and other team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one year of retail sales experience; experience with home goods, furniture, or building materials is a plus
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work Saturdays and flexible hours as needed
- Must pass a criminal background check and national sex offender registry screening
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to regularly lift and move items weighing 35–50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a warehouse or retail environment
Work Environment
This role is based in a dynamic nonprofit retail setting. While primary duties are consistent, tasks may shift based on seasonal demand, store needs, donation volume, or organizational priorities. Adaptability, a mission-driven mindset, and a collaborative spirit are essential.
