Provides guidance to children in the classroom and implements the program curriculum. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists classroom staff in meeting the needs of the children.
- Supports the planning and preparation of activities for the children.
- Supervises and actively participates in play activities with the children.
- Applies child management techniques to encourage appropriate behavior.
- Communicates discipline challenges to the Lead Teacher or Coordinator and collaborates on behavior management strategies, including redirection and conflict resolution.
- Assists with snack preparation, serving, and cleanup.
- Familiar with and adheres to DHS regulations.
- Maintains a professional appearance and dresses appropriately.
- Attends staff meetings and participates in any additional education required by DHS or the Department of Education.
- May serve as the onsite supervisor in the absence of the Lead Teacher or at the beginning/end of the day. Responsibilities include supervising children until departure, straightening the classroom, and storing materials, toys, and games.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old, with direct childcare experience and basic knowledge of children and child development.
- Must be available to work with little notice between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and is required to work a minimum of 8 hours per month.
- Must pass a Criminal Records Check with a negative result.
- Must provide a physical report with a negative TB test.
- Must be certified or able to obtain certification in CPR/First Aid, Universal Precautions, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Mandatory Child Abuse training.
- Demonstrates dependability and a positive attitude.
- Respects confidentiality regarding childcare matters.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills with children, parents, and staff.
- Completes required DHS licensing continuing education annually.
- Must work well with others and be open to accepting responsibilities and guidance from supervisors.
- Projects a positive attitude about the Y childcare programs as the site of choice for the community.
- Promotes the Y’s mission and core values in behavior and in the development of children's programs.
- Participates in and assists with other Y programs and becomes involved in Y volunteer opportunities.
