POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for overall food preparation for the School's enrolled children. May be responsible for the oversight of a group of children and be responsible for their health and safety. Must be adaptable to menu changes and be able to meet meal and snack schedules. Ensures safe food preparations and proper sanitation methods are used and maintains a safe kitchen/pantry area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Help the Kitchen Coordinator create and prepare home-style, nutritional meal plans in the boundaries of their school’s menu and budget, as well as state and federal requirements.
- Prepare meals & snacks for children and staff. Distribute food to the classrooms following appropriate health and safety guidelines and policies.
- Follow the daily menu provided by the Kitchen Manager which meets USDA, licensing, and health department requirements and specifications.
- Maintain inventory of food supplies and equipment, and order more when necessary.
- Assist in classrooms when needed as an assistant teacher/floater, as well as vehicle driver.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hours for this position would be Monday through Thursday from 9:00-1:00PM, Position would start May 27, 2025 and end August 22, 2025
- Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals, preferably in a child care facility.
- An understanding (or willingness and ability to learn) of CACFP guidelines and regulations.
- Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work.
- At least 16 years of age
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Demonstrates dependability and a positive attitude
- Respects the confidentiality of childcare matters
- Demonstrates good communication skills with children, parents and other staff
- Must work well with others and be willing to accept responsibilities and directions from supervisor
- Projects a positive attitude about the Y childcare programs, as the site of choice, for the community
- Promotes the Y mission and core values in their behavior and in the development of children’s programs

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
