POSITION: Soccer Coach
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Dubuque Soccer Club (DSC) is looking to hire part-time, Head Coaches for Club Academy teams for the 2024-25 season. Coaching positions are available for year-round availability. Coaches will be providing youth soccer training for players of different ages and playing abilities within teams and leagues throughout Dubuque and Eastern Iowa.

Reports to: Director of Coaching
- Properly manage communication with players and families to limit information gaps.
- Meticulous preparation for training and matches with individual player development as the priority.
- Focus on positively impacting the training environment to assist in maximizing youth player development.
- Sets the standard for the club environment. He/she leads by example and holds players accountable. Any asks of the players should also be displayed/reflected by the Head Coach.
- Expected to be the lead coach of their respective age group and be familiar with all players in the pool. They are also expected to work with age-group coaching staff to discuss the player pool.
- Will be asked to assist when needed, covering for training sessions and games.
- Make player selections that account for a player’s current and potential ability.
- Design and implement a comprehensive age-appropriate training plan. This will guide the coach’s periodization plan for the year.
- Adhere to all DSC travel processes and protocols.
- Positively contribute to the individual growth of all youth players in the program using the sport of soccer as the vehicle.
The right applicant will have extensive coaching experience working in youth soccer, specifically in the 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11 formats. The applicant will be able to give an on-field demonstration of a topic-oriented practice, using modern coaching methods and age-appropriate curricula.
- Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of a club soccer program including planning and coaching practices and games, assisting in special team events, and other club related duties.
- Candidates must be responsible, reliable, and have a positive attitude.
- Previous playing/and or coaching experience is required.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain coaching licensure upon hire (USSF, USC, UEFA, FIFA, etc.)
- Ensure all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained during training, practice, and games.
- Embody and demonstrate DSC’s mission and values.
- Detail oriented with excellent performance and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask, operate effectively, and make sound decisions in a dynamic working environment with frequent changes and tight deadlines.
- Must always possess a professional demeanor with players, parents, opposing coaches and officials regardless of game context, with the ability to handle difficult situations in a calm manner.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently – both verbal and written.
- Must adhere to DSC policies and protocols surrounding minor players and SafeSport training.
- Use TeamSnap to monitor player availability and have all equipment, session plans, rosters, directions and travel time prepared well in advance.
- Ensure that professional standards are maintained in terms of attire, equipment, behavior and facility.
- Communicate effectively with your DOC on player, team and operational performance.
- Create an annual self-development plan with your Director of Coaching. Be proactive in availing yourself of the coaching support provided by DSC to help you be a better coach – licensing support, ongoing education opportunities, etc.
- Attend the mandatory pre-season coach meeting in person. This will be held in August at a date and location to be announced.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Coaching.
COMPENSATION:
Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise. We welcome direct conversations with each candidate about compensation in all of our initial calls.
