Summary:
Duchesne Academy is seeking a part-time Debate Coach to lead and develop our debate program. Led by Goals and Criteria of the Society of the Sacred Heart, the Debate Coach will inspire and mentor students, while leading and overseeing practice sessions and preparing students for competitions. The program currently has about a dozen participants and focuses on Public Forum debate.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and communicate tournament scheduling and attendance with parents and students with a focus on Public Forum debate.
- Organize and oversee after-school meetings and practices.
- Supervise and judge at multiple weekend tournaments throughout the competition season as well as TFA State Tournament, Districts, Nationals, and Tournament of Championship as needed based on team qualifying to events.
- Plan, organize, and lead activities designed to promote academic, social, and emotional development in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
- Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family.
- Supervise children and ensure a safe and loving environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas of the campus.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents to promote development in debate skills.
Requirements
Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
In the performance of his/her duties, Employee shall be guided by the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Faith. Candidates must also possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- High level of competence using technology
- Experience in a PreK – 12 environments, preferably in independent schools is a plus
- Strong references to convey teaching abilities
Core Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Treat parents as partners in their child’s education.
- Strong people skills to be empathetic to children’s and parents’ needs.
Upon Hiring
- Successful completion of criminal offenders’ records information and sexual offender registry checks.
- Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
- Current CPR certification.
