What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Yard Worker/Forklift Operator position at Ducworks, Inc?
Position Overview:

The purpose of the Yard Worker position is to keep the yard organized, to locate materials for the Project Managers, and to bring materials to the Saw,Burn Table, and Water Jet areas so that these areas can run more efficiently. The Yard Worker will be responsible for the cleanliness and order of the yard and materials.
Essential Job Functions (Driver)
· Responsible for the proper maintenance and upkeep of the company vehicles and equipment related to the vehicles (straps, chains, binders, etc.)
· Must demonstrate the ability to drive in both large and small cities with some interstate travel and oversize loads.
· Must be able to safely drive, load, unload and protect materials from the outside elements (snow, rain, wind, etc.) in the most efficient manner.
· Must have a current D.O.T medical card and maintain it throughout employment.
· Report any traffic violations that occur during employment.
· Keep in close contact with his/her direct supervisor, and maintain phone contact between project managers, lead supervisors, customers and contractors. A company cell phone is provided at no cost.
Delivering:
- Deliver in a sequence that allows you to deliver and pick up material based on customer’s schedule. Often contractors and superintendents need material on job sites at scheduled times.
- Know your customers hours of operation or call in advance
- Check off packing lists and Hand Shippers with the customer to ensure parts and product is all accounted for.
Incoming Material Flow:
- Move incoming materials to the appropriate area. If the material is designated for an upcoming job, the material is moved to the Saw/Burn Table/Water Jet staging area. If the material was ordered in for stock, it is moved to the appropriate stock area.
- Materials are moved to the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet doors by the Yard Worker when requested by the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet departments.
- When the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet departments are done cutting, they put any drops outside their doors and the Yard Worker puts them back in the appropriate stock areas.
- Work with the S/R Manager and learn essential tasks that need to be completed on a daily basis.
Tasks:
· Load and unload vehicles with proper materials as directed by supervisor.
· Have correct paperwork signed by the customers and or contractors.
· Keep vehicles fueled and fluids full.
· Operate company forklifts to move materials. Maintain current forklift certification provided by company
· Help out with tasks in and around shop when not driving.
· Package and clean customers parts. Help with tagging and identifying parts.
· Notify supervisor immediately if driving conditions are unsafe.
· Use ratchets, binders, straps, shrink wrap, steel strapping and other methods to safely secure product without damaging product.
· Prolong the wear and tear of the tie down straps by protecting sharp edges with carpet, cardboard, rubber, etc.
· Protect product from being scratched by using carpet, cardboard, rubber, etc.
· Use maps and pre plan the most efficient way to deliver and pick up customers product.
· Use log book if traveling anything over 150 miles (as the bird flies).
· Fill out daily time cards and logs according to the jobs worked on for the day.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Keep yard organized by putting incoming materials in the appropriate locations and putting drops from the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet in the appropriate stock locations.
2. Ensure that all materials being restocked or organized are marked with pertinent information.
3. Locate stock materials needed for upcoming jobs from Project Manager’s cut lists and document the availability of the stock materials needed so the Project Manager can determine which materials need to be ordered.
4. The Yard Worker will bring all materials to be cut to the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet doors. The Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet departments will give the Yard Worker cut lists as early as possible so that the materials can be located and brought up to the Saw,Burn Table, or Water Jet areas.
5. When cutting processes are complete, the Yard Worker will remark the drops if necessary and return the material to the appropriate stock areas.
6. Assist the Shipping & Receiving department with tasks such as: Palletizing parts, maintaining the shipping department tools, running errands, delivering to jobsites or vendors, and helping in the paint or weld departments.
7. Move finished product from shop areas to the yard. Stack or palletize the finished product so it is ready for shipping.
8. Load and unload materials from semi-trailer/flatbed/box/or other trucks as needed.
9. Assist with snow removal.
10. Keep yard clean and organized and maintain a non-cluttered driveway.
Physical Demands:
1. Ability to lift over 75 lbs.
2. Ability to bend, kneel, sit, or stand for an extended period of time.
Required Experience/Certification:
1. Current Forklift Certification
2. 2 years forklift experience in a warehouse or industrial setting.
3. Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch.
