What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Inspector position at Ducworks, Inc?
Position Overview:
The QA Inspector – Finishing, Incoming & Assistant Documentation Tech works alongside the Quality Manager and other members of the Quality Department to ensure that every project meets or exceeds the quality expectations of the customer, focusing particularly on in-process and final inspection of grit blast, paint, waterjet and assembly activities performed in the Finishing Department. This position also inspects incoming items as they are received such as materials, components and parts which have been sent for outside processing along with reviewing and filing of certifications. This position assists the Senior Inspector over Final Inspection and Documentation with gathering and preparing the required documentation needed for the customer and assisting with final inspection as well as participating with other tasks as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Arrive at neutral conclusions regarding quality issues independent of outside views.
- Be aware of project schedules and balance time accordingly to meet due dates.
- Must demand excellence in quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy.
- Coordinate and assist the shipping department on inspection of incoming raw materials and work with the Shipping Manager to ensure that material certifications are filed and available for final inspection documentation.
- Perform receiving inspection duties on incoming components and on parts sent to vendors for outside processing. Ensure that vendor certifications are correct and filed appropriately.
- Inspect grit blasted parts for proper profile and adherence to customer or paint manufacturer requirements.
- Inspect painted parts for proper MIL thickness and adherence to customer or paint manufacturer requirements and internal standards regarding masking, runs, holidays, finish, etc. Inspect paint products for compliance and inspect paint logs periodically.
- Inspect projects in assembly for compliance with customer requirements.
- Inspect waterjet parts for proper material, edge quality and dimensional accuracy by using various measuring tools such as squares, tape measures, calipers, and other tools or gauges as required.
- Generate and file documentation of inspections as required.
- Assist other quality inspectors as requested.
- Read, understand, and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts and other technical documents to identify finishing or assembly parameters, flag notes, and other features or requirements.
- Detect, tag, quarantine, and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.
- May be asked to participate in and help prepare for internal and external quality audits.
- May be asked to identify, prepare, and present quality related training to the finishing or shipping department personnel.
- Coordinate inspections so that the flow of products between departments is not hindered and notify Department Managers when inspections are complete.
- Understand the Ducworks Quality Manual and Best Practice documents and abide by their principles, programs, quality, and craftsmanship standards.
- Understand the Ducworks Quality Tier system.
- Become qualified to operate forklifts and bridge cranes.
- Understand the Ducworks employee manual and abide by its principles.
Safety:
Comply with OSHA regulations and standard shop safety practices in the following areas (including but not limited to): personal protective equipment, chains & slings, cranes, forklifts, extension cords, etc.. Each employee plays an important role in protecting themselves, others and company assets from hazardous conditions.
Requirements:
- Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or graduation from certified technical school or equivalent.
- Minimum Work Requirement: 1 years in a Quality Assurance (QA) related position or manufacturing environment or other equivalent experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Basic understanding of inspection tools.
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings and other technical documents, follow routers, and use simple math to perform basic calculations.
- Problem solving skills, interpersonal communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills such as navigating and editing PDF’s, Excel Spreadsheets, Outlook email, etc.
- Job requires 40 hours per week with flexibility to work occasional overtime.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
