The Head Custodian leads and manages the custodial team, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility, and overseeing custodial operations, including training, scheduling, and inventory management.Classification: Support Staff Wage and Benefit Schedule AEssential Functions: Perform various manual tasks to maintain school buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, working from established procedures under the direction of the Head Custodian/Maintenance Supervisor.Qualifications: 1.Possesses a high school education or the equivalent.2.Passes a physical examination.3.Able to make minor repairs.4.Has the ability to make judgments to comply with instructions and prescribed procedures and to make minor decisions in the performance of duties.5.Able to operate small machinery.6.Possesses a general knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.7.Possesses a commercial drivers license, or is willing to obtain one.8.Possesses the ability to maintain congenial, positive and productive working relationships with students, staff and the public.9.Possesses basic computer skills.Responsibilities: 1.Maintains a courteous and helpful attitude toward pupils, staff and the public.2.Is responsible for the general condition of the building and grounds committed to his/her charge.3.Maintains assigned areas including classrooms, offices, cafeteria and any other areas in school under the control of the district in a clean and orderly condition.4.Sweeps floors, wash, mop, strip and wax according to instructions.5.Washes windows, walls, light fixtures, furniture and other equipment as needed.6.Cleans lavatories/urinals; and replace supplies, paper goods, soap and so forth.7.Performs other duties that include but are not limited to the following: disinfecting specified areas, changing bulbs or lamps, unclogging drains, cleaning or replacing air filters, collecting trash, using equipment and materials including but not limited to brooms, mops, scrubbers, water, vacuum, polisher, brushes, dusters, soaps, polishes, wax stripper, drain openers, bowl cleaners and disinfectants.8.Moves furniture and other equipment as necessary.9.Unloads trucks, deliver materials to proper destination.10.Perform minor repairs to furniture, equipment, and building.11.Shovels snow and keep walks and steps clear of snow and ice.12.Maintains immediate grounds in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.13.Reports promptly any conditions that need to be remedied or repaired.14.Maintains security and safety of building as instructed by supervisor.15.Guards against waste of fuel, water, electricity and supplies.16.Performs other duties as the supervisor assigns.Mental and Physical Demands: 1. Will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time.2. May be required to move heavy objects such as furniture or equipment.3.
