What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Dudley-Charlton Regional School District?
General duties include but are not limited to health assessment, medical treatment and health counseling of students; medication administration; development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of individualized medication administration care plans and individualized health care plans; collaboration with other health care providers and school personnel regarding the health of students; providing emergency care to any individual in the case of injury or sudden illness; performing and/or overseeing all Massachusetts Department of Public Health mandated health screenings or activities; maintaining comprehensive school health records including computer; prevention and control of communicable diseases within the schools; staffing immunization clinics and other public health related duties.Essential Functions: Maintain health files for each student with up-to-date, cumulative medical health records and vaccination recordsEnsure medication orders on record for all prescription medicationsEnsure parent consents on record for all prescription and over the counter medicationsMaintain log of administration all prescription and over the counter medicinesMaintain health cabinets with all necessary medical supplies including safe handling, storage, and disposal of prescription medications and hazardous wastesCommunicate with students doctors and health care providers regarding students.Develop action plans for students with special health needs, and include in section 504 plans or Individual Education Programs (IEP) as applicable.Document nursing assessments, interventions, and evaluations in a daily school log.The school nurse will train unlicensed school personnel to administer emergency epinephrine via auto injection.Collaborates with the Massachusetts Immunization and Epidemiology Programs to ensure infection control in the schools and promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through immunization compliance, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases.Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student's health and medical information per State and Federal LawsMinimum requirements: Current R.N. license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.Department of Education Licensure as a School Nurse or certifiable.Two years experience in school health, family practice, community health or pediatrics.BSN from an accredited School of Nursing, as well as CPR and AED certified.
