The Engineering Technologist II position is second level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with general supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist II position are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.
The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Job Duties:Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
Conducts engineering and related studies.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Basic/Required Qualifications
Engineering TechnologistII
- Associates degree in Engineering Technology
- 2 years related work experience
- In lieu of Associates degree(s) and 2 years listed above, High School/GED AND 6 year(s) related work experience
- Valid Driver's License
Engineering TechnologistIII
- 3 years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
- 5 years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9 years equivalent experience with a high school diploma/GED.
- Valid Driver's License
Experience with Maximo software
Experience with BOUD software
Experience using SAP/Customer Connect
Experience with Customer Connect Universal Lighting Agreement Tool (ULAT)
Experience using MyWorld software
Experience and familiarity with lighting rate schedules
Experience with lighting products and services
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Good written and oral communication skills.
Experience in the utility industry.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable dailycommute to the posted Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Either a graduate from a college or university with Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 2 years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 6 years equivalent experience without a degree.
