NOTES:

-This position will be based out of the Nashville Operation Center. After Onboarding period, 75% of the training will be conducted at the Nashville Operations Center while the remaining 25% of training will involve traveling to other locations.

-Depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as a NG - Training Specialist I or a NG -Training Specialist II.

Knowledgeable SME in Natural Gas Industry with the ability to train and mentor students in both the training competencies and subject matter content. Responsible for providing training to Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) employees to include Customer Field Operations (Both CFO Crew and CFO Technician), Technical Field Operations, and NGBU Distribution Construction. Responsible for creating and sustaining a learning environment whereby the learner is given adequate resources and time to complete all aspects of the training program. This includes the training governance for learning programs used within various organizations within the NGBU such that work is performed safely, efficiently, and consistent with procedure, manuals, regulatory and manufacturing requirements. Training Specialist will ensure proper maintenance of training records to ensure the documentation of employee competency through observations and assessments at the current skill level of training, certifications, or step progressions. Assists in the implementation and administration of safe and consistent adherence to policies and procedures; tool and equipment evaluations and integration to establish and bring overall consistency to training standards for employees performing work across the NGBU. Works with guidance from experienced Training Specialists to meet strategic direction set forth by the Natural Gas Technical & EHS Training and NGBU Leadership. This position will assist in training alignment to ensure that the needs of stakeholders are met. Interface with Environmental Health and Safety, Policy and Procedure Team, Operator Qualification, and other internal and external organizations to ensure a consistent and cohesive application of training, assessments, and continuing education across the NGBU. Ensure that current, safe, efficient, reliable, and comprehensive training programs are maintained for the NGBU.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Facilitates and delivers Technical, EHS, and Human Performance training content for new hires or existing employees.

  • Identifies issues, advises Management of status, and assists in developing and executing plans of action to remedy, monitor, and control to minimize negative impact to training programs.

  • Reports to Management on team accomplishments, achievements, and productivity, and makes recommendations to Management on performance evaluation, corrective action, and recognition.

  • Develops effective working relationships with customers and teammates to support a cohesive team effort.

  • Assist teammates with applicable projects related to internal or vendor training.

  • Aids in the procurement, review, and revision of training content. Assist in developing or revising training processes, specific to those related to delivery of content designed by NG Training Development and Performance Effectiveness team.

  • Assist Management in the interpretation and application of products and services.

  • Assist teammates with solving training problems by reviewing and analyzing situations, guidelines, precedents, and company/industry trends and developing logical conclusions, and escalates more complex problems as needed.

  • Works to become a functional subject matter expert of select Technical Training, Health, Safety, and Human Performance topics.

  • ITS Assessment Proctor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Note: Dependent upon experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Basic/Required Qualifications: NG Training Specialist I

  • High School/GED degree and five (5) or more years related work experience.

Basic/Required Qualifications: NG Training Specialist II

  • High School/GED degree and seven (7) or more years related work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Related work experience including but not limited to previous training experience, experience working in a technical or craft field, Natural Gas utility work, or completion of technical school courses.

  • Self-directed while working to build leadership skills.

  • Models behavior consistent with our Enterprise Strategies.

  • Working to become knowledgeable in adult learning as well as content knowledge; and can consult with course managers and varying levels of leadership on training related issues as the need arises.

  • Models behavior consistent with Duke Energy EHS Vision.

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).

  • Safety rules application and interpretation ability.

  • Willingness to build knowledge of LMS and other learning systems, and tools used for NGBU operations.

  • Knowledge of natural gas systems equipment, material and operations.

  • Strong Collaboration skills.

  • Strategic thinking skills.

  • Proficient project management skills to contribute to complex projects and to develop innovative ideas to address training-related challenges and opportunities.

  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.).

  • Working to build skills to influence and provide direction to team members and to advise management of team members' performance and project status.

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification

  • Environmental - Outdoor training spaces, training classrooms, training labs, office environment, field Activities, various weather conditions

  • Physical - Requires lifting, bending, working and walking on uneven surfaces, driving distances greater than 100 miles,

  • Schedule - extended workdays to include early mornings and late evenings, weekend and holiday travel when needed.

  • Travel - May require 50% travel during Trainer Onboarding period of approximately 12 months. Following Trainer Onboarding period, normal work may require travel up to 25% of your time to additional training facilities away from your assigned location. This includes, but is not limited to, travel to Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Cincinnati.
