What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nuclear Eng III or Senior Nuclear Engineer – I&C Brunswick Nuclear Plant position at Duke Energy?
Responsibilities
Design package development, developing conceptual designs and specifications for bidding purposes, evaluating alternatives, technical support during implementation, setpoint development, coordination of design efforts with selected vendors / Architect Engineers / designer and conducting design package reviews.
Working knowledge or familiarity of cyber security regulations as mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is required as digital designs need to be cyber security compliant.
Design products related to major digital controls system replacements, software evaluations, instrument component upgrades, and control circuits are expected to be developed.
Qualify in the necessary duty areas to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications within Duke Energy with past qualifications and product demonstration from other utilities as an acceptable alternative.
Exhibit sound technical judgment and guidance to the project team.
Basic / Required Qualifications
Nuclear Engineer III
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
4-6 years of engineering experience.
Senior Nuclear Engineer
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Additional Preferred Qualifications :
Registration / Licensure as a Professional Engineer
Experience in digital hardware / software modifications
Digital / I&C engineering experience at Brunswick Nuclear Plant
Working knowledge of digital upgrade specific licensing requirements and current 10CFR73.54 Cyber Security Requirements
Experience developing digital / software modification test plans.
Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility.
Strong oral / written communication skills within a professional environment
Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Specific Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
Occasional overnight travel.
Working Conditions
Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.
