Job SummaryThe Rates & Regulatory Analyst will serve as a member of the Duke Energy Ohio & Kentucky Rates and Regulatory department. This person will be involved in setting retail and wholesale rates for the electric and natural gas utilitys in Ohio and Kentucky. Familiarity with electric and natural gas utility rate structures is highly desired but not required. The Rates & Regulatory Analyst would assist other team members in rate analysis and execution.
This position will be based in Cincinnati, OH. This position will report to a manager/director but will work in a matrixed environment for increased career growth and diversity.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral responsibilities:
Provide regulatory support for Ohio & Kentucky rate initiatives
Assist in cost recovery processes related to retail riders/trackers; prepare related worksheets, schedules, support Duke Energy Ohio & Duke Energy Kentucky witnesses in various ways such as responding to discovery requests
Prepare regulatory filings, special studies, and analyses in support of regulatory filings and agreements
Assist in retail base rate case activities to accomplish appropriate cost recovery for Duke Energy Ohio & Duke Energy Kentucky, including research, data gathering, preparing related worksheets, schedules, and providing support for expert witnesses
Understand and comply with state and federal regulatory requirements related to electric and natural gas rates
Work with internal stakeholders, as needed, providing necessary information and answering questions
Assist in the communication of regulatory and cost recovery concepts to both internal and external audiences
Prepare various rate and statistical reports
Administrative tasks as assigned

Rates & Regulatory Analyst
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Mathematics or other related degree AND two (2) years minimum required related work experience
Senior Rates & Regulatory Analyst
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Mathematics or other related degree AND four (4) years minimum required related work experience
Previous experience in regulatory accounting or regulatory rates
Ability to develop and use data-driven, complex spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated effective analytical and problem-solving skills
Background in regulatory, rates, finance, accounting, or reporting
Attention to detail, including identification of irregularities in data and commitment to high level of accuracy
Proficient in Microsoft Products: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to verbally explain calculations and filings to others
Good time management and organization skills; ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision, seeking guidance from teammates; ability to effectively enlist the support of others in meeting deadlines
Ability to foster good relationships with teammates and others throughout the Company
Ability to work within a matrixed environment
Regulated industry work experience
Exposure to or familiarity with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
Base rate case support experience
CPA or public accounting or internal auditing experience
Familiarity with Peoplesoft Financial System, exposure to PowerPlan Fixed Asset system, knowledge of other Duke financial systems and tools such as SAP
Strong interpersonal communication skills: ability to influence others, gain support of proposals and recommendations
Strong analytical skills: ability to recognize trends and irregularities in complex calculations and explain variances by researching and identifying relevant, underlying causes of changes in results

Office environment (with opportunity to work remotely as circumstances allow - up to 2 days a week) with extensive use of a computer.
Office located in Cincinnati
Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines, especially in periods of rate cases
Local travel - 5-15%. Occasional travel to Columbus, OH or Frankfurt, KY and infrequent training classes nationwide.
Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a listed Duke Energy facility.
