A Substation Technician Learner will assist a higher-level technician in activities associated substation construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence. ResponsibilitiesClearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rules.Basic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements.Basic understanding of the isolation of substation equipment and grounding practices.Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills.Basic understanding of electrical drawings (substation equipment schematics and power system drawings).Basic understanding NERC compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned work.Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order.Basic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systems.Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activities.Develop a basic understanding of AC and DC basic principles.Demonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devices.Basic Requirements for Transmission Substation Tech Learner Must have a valid State Driver's License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver's LicenseHigh School diploma or equivalentAdditional Preferred QualificationsAdvanced technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. frequently leads others.Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities with internal and external customers.Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Provides coaches and mentors other Technicians.Provides high level of leadership and sets a positive example for others to follow.Advanced written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated ongoing leadership skills development.Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.Must have a permanent residence approximately forty-five minutes from their base location.Working ConditionsDemonstrated availability for after- hour's work and call out rotation.Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
