Job Summary
Administer anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical and medical procedures. Provide quality patient care and monitor vital signs throughout the procedure.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for anesthesia by explaining procedures and positioning them on the operating room table.
- Determine, set up, and prepare necessary drugs, supplies, and equipment for the administration of anesthetics.
- Monitor patients' vital signs during the procedure and take necessary action to ensure a near-normal physiological status.
- Record patients' conditions and types of anesthetics used on their charts.
- Assist in moving patients from the operating room to the recovery area and check on their condition periodically.
- Supervise and instruct student nurse anesthetists in the administration of general anesthetics.
- Maintain records of each anesthetic administered and prepare periodic reports related to activities.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP program with a specialization in nurse anesthesia.
- CRNA certification and eligibility for certification by the AANA as a certified Nurse Anesthetist.
- Current RN licensure issued by NCBON with approval to practice as a CRNA.
