The Department of Pediatrics within the Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a Chief for the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Associate Professor or Professor level.  Proven leadership and excellence in clinical care, education, research and administration are required.  Candidates must have a Doctor of Medicine (or equivalent) and be board-certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.  Candidates must have or be eligible for a North Carolina medical license.

The Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology is committed to excellence in patient care, research, education and advocacy. The division offers the full spectrum of clinical services within this specialty to infants, children, adolescents and young adults. There are disease-specific programs directed by the faculty including those for patients with hemoglobinopathies, disorders of hemostasis, or cancer. Patients are provided with compassionate coordinated care with state-of-the-art treatment delivered by physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, and psychologists.

The Pediatric Hematology-Oncology division includes a comprehensive array of clinical and research programs.  The Divisions Oncology programs are allied with the Duke Cancer Institute.  Division faculty are significant participants in the Childrens Oncology Group (COG).  Within the Division, there is a dedicated neuro-oncology program, and the Division is closely affiliated with the Division of Blood and Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant.  The primary hematologic focus of the Division is hemoglobinopathies.  The Department and Division are searching actively for an individual to build the coagulation service.  Other dedicated clinical programs within the Division include a Long-Term Survivors Clinic, a Quality-of-Life Service and a Medical Ethics program.

The Division includes 10 faculty, a psychologist, four nurse practitioners, a physicians assistant, a nurse clinician, a nurse coordinator, and four social workers.  In addition, there are currently eight fellows in an ACGME accredited fellowship program.

Faculty are involved in both clinical and basic research.  In addition to developing and enrolling patients on COG protocols, faculty participate in the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium studies and several national sickle cell clinical research programs.  Basic research programs are focused on sarcomas, neuroblastoma, leukemia and neural malignancies.  The following qualities are preferred in the new Division Chief :
