Job Overview
Surgical Technologist Role
- The Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room, assisting surgeons and other medical professionals during procedures.
- This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Level I - Entry Level
- Assist in preparing the operating room for procedures, including setting up equipment and sterile supplies.
- Pass instruments to surgeons during procedures, maintaining a safe and organized workspace.
- Collaborate with nurses and other medical staff to ensure seamless patient care.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with patients and families.
- Develop knowledge and skills through ongoing education and training.
Level II - Experienced Technologist
- Take on additional responsibilities, including teaching new staff members and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
- Apply advanced knowledge of anatomy and surgical techniques to complex cases.
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism and expertise in all interactions.
- Evaluate and improve processes to enhance efficiency and patient satisfaction.
- Mentor junior staff members, promoting growth and development within the team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or certification (NCCT or NBSTSA).
- Or, provides evidence of successful completion of an appropriate training program for Surgical Technology in the United States Military.
Experience
- Level I- Entry level position for new graduates of Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologists with 0 to 18 months experience.
- Level II- Requires 6 to 12 months of full-time equivalent Surgical Technology or relevant military experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to adapt to changes within the healthcare environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
