The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine is expanding its outpatient services to help meet the access needs for behavioral health services within Durham, NC and in the greater Triangle community. We are seeking to hire a full-time Clinical Psychologist to join our growing multidisciplinary clinical services team. Specifically, applicants with training in clinical health psychology are encouraged to apply.
Clinical responsibilities for this faculty position will include working in our interdisciplinary clinics at The Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery. The role will include conducting comprehensive psychosocial evaluations for individuals preparing for metabolic surgery and providing services (individual, group, couple, and family pre-and post-op treatments) to patients and their families in the context of obesity treatment. Role may include clinical work in any of the Metabolic and Surgery Clinic sites (e.g., Alamance Co, Durham, Raleigh). Opportunities for involvement in ongoing research activities of the Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery are possible. Involvement in the development of collaborative care services with other obesity treatment providers within the Duke Health System will also be part of this position. Part of the clinical effort might also involve other areas of health psychology within Duke Health, such as the Gastroenterology Clinic and the Chronic Pain Program and Biofeedback Services.
The ideal applicant would have: (a) strong clinical training from a scientist-practitioner or clinical science doctoral training program, (b) extensive training in use of the empirically supported interventions and principles of behavior change, (c) training in brief behavioral interventions (e.g., motivational interviewing), and contemporary cognitive behavioral therapies emphasizing acceptance and mindfulness.
