Shift Requirements : Per Diem 4-hour shifts with Work Hours between : 9 : 00am-1pm OR am 12 : 30pm-4 : 30 pm Monday-Friday. Weekend day shifts possible as the service expands.

General Description of the Job Class
The pharmacy technician will be based at The Plaza Pharmacy inside Duke Raleigh Hospital. The ideal candidate will be performing under supervision a variety of routine and advanced technical duties related to preparing and dispensing drugs in accordance with standard procedures and techniques. They must be able to balance efficiency with accuracy, work both independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in customer service and teamwork while ensuring all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met. The candidate must model behaviors that exemplify our core values of safety, teamwork, excellence, diversity and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Effectively follow workflow procedure with an in-depth understanding of each area (i.e., prescription receipt, data entry, pick-up, filling) for processing of patient medications. Deliver medications to patient care locations within the hospital, when appropriate.
Assist in training new technicians and students and assist with evaluating their progress as directed. May assist in preparing schedules, setting work priorities and making work assignments as directed. Assist in documentation of specific procedures and quality assurance activities under a pharmacist review.
Assist with processing, ordering, completing Provider office orders.
Receive and triage information requests; research and provide information when and where appropriate. Refer other inquires to the pharmacist. Order, receive and stock drugs and supplies along with assisting with inventory management and control. Package medications as required for dispensing.
Remains flexible for scheduling needs while easily adapting to a challenging work environment
Assist in inventory management focusing on a lean inventory while minimizing out of stock orders.
Assist other technicians in performing complex procedures and / or calculations as required.
Manage personal responsibilities while being able to shift to help team members
Proactively identifying and resolving potential problems to ensure patients have their medications when needed.
Collaborates with immediate pharmacy team, insurance companies, and customers alike to resolve issues, ensure accuracy, and deliver a timely resolution of any medication or insurance related concerns
Prioritizing patient needs and displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete patient satisfaction
Actively seeks opportunities to expand clinical, technical and insurance knowledge
Independently able to contact patients via phone to coordinate pick-up of medications refills to ensure medication compliance
Complete and document all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identify and replace outdated and unusable drugs. Monitor assigned quality improvement indicators of individual or departmental performance.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education :
Work requires high school or equivalent. Successful completion of a formalized Pharmacy Technician program strongly preferred.
Experience :
Work requires a minimum of two years of experience as a pharmacy technician plus completion of advanced competencies checklist as documented and approved by the Department of Pharmacy OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE.
Previous experience in an outpatient, retail / community pharmacy setting required.
