Occupational Summary
Perform a variety of police duties to enforce laws, protect lives, and safeguard Duke University property.
Work Performed
- Perform a variety of police duties, patrolling assigned areas on foot or in a police car to detect crime and arrest violators. Patrol parking lots, outlying University properties, and buildings to ensure their security.
- Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic; investigate traffic accidents and file preliminary accident reports.
- Check automobiles on University property for improper parking, overtime parking, and University registration decal display. Issue tickets for vehicular violations.
- Provide emergency ambulance service and temporary first-aid treatment to members of the University community and visitors. Provide emergency escort services to students and staff as needed.
- Prepare and present testimony in court concerning traffic violations, burglaries, and other offenses.
- Provide information about Duke University to students, staff, and the general public.
- Escort money for various University units upon request.
- Provide security for special University events.
- Assist in training new public safety officers.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
