Duke Recreation & Physical Education is seeking an energetic and creative individual to join our team as Director of Creative Services. In this exciting role you will have the opportunity to use your imagination and artistic prowess to help shape the look, feel and identity of our organization. You will work closely with our program areas to bring strategic and programmatic ideas to life.
Daily, you will get to flex your creative skills, collaborate with your team and develop and integrate ideas into business strategies that promote, educate and highlight the attributes and benefits of our organization to the Duke community. Your artistic palette will consist of a variety of healthy “colors” such as Fitness, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Memberships and more. From developing targeted promotional plans for program areas to identifying new and exciting ways to highlight and communicate our services, you will drive the entire creative process.
This is an exciting chance to make your mark by leveraging your strategic creative energy. You will collaborate cross-functionally and captain creative projects such as our website and organizational communications. Your efforts will be pivotal in shaping the awareness and benefits of our organization to the Duke community.
Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution.
Work requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial role and the ability to think strategically and creatively and stay abreast of the latest marketing and creative trends.
Preferred Qualifications:
· High level of collaboration, communication and teamwork fostering a positive work atmosphere.
· Strong leadership and team management skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and immediate needs.
· Expertise in graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.), video editing, and web content management with the ability to learn and leverage new software platforms such as AI.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Shares the responsibility of the mission, strategic planning and goals for Recreation and Physical Education.
· Knowledge of trends in recreation, wellness, and physical education is a plus.

Position Description
This position is responsible for the development, direction, and evaluation of creative and branding strategies for Duke Recreation & Physical Education’s programs and facilities.
Marketing and Communications
· Oversee the design, production, and distribution of promotional materials, including digital media, print, and video content.
· Manage the department’s website and social media platforms to ensure up-to-date and engaging content.
· Create campaigns to increase participation in programs, events, and services offered by the department.
· Write and edit press releases, newsletters, and other communications.
· Coordinates and leads outreach opportunities at campus orientations, involvement fairs, and other campus-wide programs.
Creative Development
· Supervise the design of digital and physical materials, including graphics, signage, and multimedia.
· Coordinate video production and photography to highlight facilities, events, and success stories.
· Develop engaging storytelling initiatives that highlight the impact of recreation and physical education programs.
Budget Oversight
· Oversees the Marketing budget. Ensures effective use of funds and is the primary recorder of expenses and reconciliation through departmental fiscal practices.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
· Manage and mentor Assistant Director of Creative Services
· Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creativity.
· Serve as the primary liaison between the creative team and other program/academic units to ensure effective communication and project execution.
Assessment and Reporting
· Track the effectiveness of marketing and creative initiatives using metrics and analytics.
· Prepare and present reports to leadership on the impact of campaigns and strategies.
· Use feedback and data to make informed adjustments to marketing efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires communications and marketing skills normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience
Work generally requires two years related experience in advertising, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE marketing, media, promotions, graphic arts or public relations.
