Oncology Decision Insights group
Our comprehensive multi-disciplinary research and clinical team in the Department of Urology, led by Deborah Kaye, MD, MS, is collectively dedicated to using both quantitative and qualitative research methods to assess healthcare costs, utilization, adherence and decision-making amongst individuals with cancer. We then use these findings to further evaluate, develop and implement local and national interventions/policies to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities. We pay particular attention to improving care for individuals with urologic malignancies.
Our group’s strong connections/collaborations include: Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy, Duke’s Clinical Research Institute, Duke’s Department of Population Health Sciences, Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, and Duke’s School of Nursing, amongst others.
Position Description
The position will primarily focus on activities contributing to developing and testing an intervention to reduce the financial burden of advanced cancer care. The work involves engaging with participants for recruitment, interview and survey data collection (both virtual and in-person); scheduling team meetings; data analysis; synthesis and writing of reports and manuscripts. The successful candidate will also assist with other mixed-methods projects with the goal of improving health outcomes, primary amongst individuals with cancer.
This is a full-time position, but we can consider part-time. We could also consider part-time with transition to full-time. Work for this position will be mostly virtual but will require some in-person work at Duke Health in Durham, North Carolina. We prefer candidate to be available to participate as a team member for at least 18 months.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and synthesize literature reviews
- Complete and submit research administrative paperwork in a timely manner
- Assist with participant recruitment
- This includes performing search queries and outreach for eligibility screening, consenting participants, and scheduling assessments
- Interface with study participants to collect research data (i.e. interviews and surveys)
- Engage with community, potential participants, and advisory groups for continued participation
- Design electronic and paper data collection forms to capture data according to protocols
- Conduct qualitative interviews
- Qualitatively code and analyze transcripts
- Assist with data queries and basic statistical analyses for survey work
- Preparation of independent research manuscripts for publication
- Administrative tasks including scheduling and coordination of meetings, maintaining project timeline and record of project milestones

Requirements
Work requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably with significant coursework or training/prior experience in research methods, social sciences, statistics, health policy, healthcare delivery systems, and/or related fields

Minimum Qualifications
Education
