Occupational Summary
Perform supervisory duties in the care, cleaning, and general housekeeping of several buildings, residence areas, or sections of large buildings at Duke University. Responsibilities include hiring and training new employees and conducting first-step grievance hearings.
Work Performed
- Establish and maintain housekeeping schedules and assign employees to specific areas for various housekeeping duties.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections to ensure the completion of work assignments.
- Ensure that work assignments are appropriately staffed and that employees have adequate supplies and equipment for task completion.
- Discuss general housekeeping procedures with personnel in the assigned area; recommend and implement changes in procedures as necessary.
- Maintain records and submit reports related to personnel, equipment, supplies, expenses, and general housekeeping activities.
- Take necessary action to address any mechanical, structural, or electrical conditions in need of repair or replacement.
- Perform various personnel functions, including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and scheduling vacations. Conduct first-step grievance hearings.
- Monitor and ensure the proper training of new personnel.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires the ability to provide instructions and maintain records generally acquired through a partial high school education.
Experience
Work requires four years of cleaning or related experience necessary OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE to obtain knowledge of scope of housekeeping unit operations, or four years of supervisory experience to become familiar with accepted supervisory and personnel practices and standards.
