Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the executive director, the Program Director is responsible for the supervision and management of Summer Camp, Retreats and Conferencing and the Camp Store. This includes assisting with supervising the seasonal food service staff. Supervisory responsibilities include budget oversight and business development, staff management, program development and delivery as well as safety/risk management of program departments and Camp Store revenue and expenses. The Program Director has lead responsibility for summer camp programming, delivery and staff supervision. The Program Director serves as branch supervisor in the absence of the Executive Director.

Essential Functions:

· Along with Executive Director, provide leadership and supervision to staff achieving successful growth of non-summer programs with an emphasis on Outdoor Education and Retreats/Conferences.

· Along with Executive Director, Responsible for assigned departments and Camp Store resulting in annual growth and achieving targeted budget and enrollment figures.

· Develop and implement new curriculum and program options for summer camp and year-round programming.

· Work with Executive Director to recruit and retain school and rental groups.

· Work with Executive Director on aspects of Camp including: including marketing, fiscal management, safety/risk, staffing, and program development and delivery.

· Maintain inventory of program equipment.

· Along with Executive Director, Serve as on-site contact for summer camp and for non-summer programs.

· Maintain a clean camp before, during, and after group visits.

· Ensure timely payment from user groups and summer camp participant families.

· Maintain accurate inventory, records, and files.

· Assist Executive Director with annual accreditation with the American Camp Association.

· Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

Supervisory Responsibility

Camp Miller Program Director will work in concert with the Camp Miller Executive Director with hiring, coaching, and termination. The Program Director will ensure that camp counselors and other Camp Miller staff are completing assigned duties.

Work Environment

This position works in an outdoor, year-round camp environment in which uneven ground, obstacles, camp and outdoor equipment, and other camp items are commonly encountered each day.

Physical Demands

  • The employee must have the ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing (60 minutes or more), bending, reaching, and lifting. The employee must also frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while unloading food, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Visual and auditory ability is required to identify and respond to environmental, food safety, and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
  • Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
  • Some physical requirements of a program position could be endurance including standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and program activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying weather conditions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

The Program Director is expected to be present for work when campers are on site and, if variation occurs, it is approved by the Camp Miller Executive Director. Campers may experience

needs at various times throughout the day and night. The Program Director may be required to assist staff and campers at any time during the day or night.

Travel

The Program Director may be required to travel each week around Camp Miller and to other locations within the state.

Required Education and Experience

  • Experience in administrative roles within a camp setting.

· Experience in the development and delivery of programs and activities for similar population.

· Experience with managing a team of staff.

· Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.

· Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures.

· Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods including vegetarian

· Ability to understand, adapt to, and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives, and cultures.

· Certifications: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, Basic First Aid (required), and ServSafe. Training can be provided upon hiring and must be obtained within 60 days. Higher levels of certification are accepted.

Preferred Education and Experience

· BA/BS from an accredited college or university in business, outdoor education, non-profit management, or related field.

· Experience in marketing and sales

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

· Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

· Must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
