What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Duluth Community School Collaborative?
Purpose: The Duluth Community School Collaborative (DCSC) is seeking a passionate, resourceful and organized nonprofit executive and relationship builder to lead our organization. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for management of the business aspects of the organization, including budget and fundraising, along with setting strategic direction and management of staff.
Mission: The Duluth Community School Collaborative promotes wellbeing and success for Duluth Public Schools students and families by co-creating, celebrating, and mobilizing for equitable educational experiences.
Vision: Students and families flourish in connected schools and communities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work closely with district, school and community staff and volunteers/partners to facilitate strong school-community connections, ensure integration of school-community services, and maintain alignment of services with the goals and objectives of the DCSC.
- Set strategic direction for the organization and assure that work aligns with organizational priorities and goals.
- Lead, support, and supervise a group of dedicated and committed program staff, including teams working in youth development, health and wellness, and family and community engagement.
- Conduct and coordinate annual performance reviews for staff and guide annual professional development planning.
- Develop, implement, and grow a comprehensive and sustainable funding plan to meet organization’s funding needs.
- Write, coordinate, and administer grants awarded to the DCSC and maintain ongoing communication with funders.
- Oversee the business functions of the organization including working with operations administrator and contracted bookkeeper to ensure accurate reporting of cash flow, monthly expenditures, and to track the organization’s financial activity.
- Maintain and monitor adherence to organization policies and procedures, including all school district data practices, insurance requirements, and other required processes.
- Develop and manage the agency budget and prepare financial documents as needed by the Board of Directors.
- Maintain and expand relationships and collaborations with like-minded organizations, individuals and agencies.
- Serve as primary HR and IT administrator for the organization.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Job Qualifications:
- Passion for the mission and vision of the Duluth Community School Collaborative and the power of the Full Service Community School model.
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of non-profit management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and to using/learning to use a trauma informed lens that honors all people.
- Strong organizational management skills. Experience managing staff, setting strategic objectives and managing a budget preferred.
- Demonstrated experience creating and executing a sustainable fundraising plan and past success in applying for, receiving and managing grants.
- Confident relationship builder with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders including school and district leadership, funders, community leaders, staff and families.
- Collaborative approach to developing relationships and solving problems.
- Experience navigating complex systems.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Past success working with a non-profit board of directors and an enthusiasm around developing new board relationships.
