What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front of House Operations Manager position at Duluth's Best Bread?
Do you love managing people? Do you love customer service? We are hiring a front-of-house manager to oversee the counter service at our three stores and festivals. (We have a festival manager, but you will supervise this person at a high level).
We are looking for a happy early riser who is good at checklists and spreadsheets, knows how to supervise...and is not afraid to clean!
Pay and benefits:
$23 an hour
Tips for shifts you work directly
1 hour PTO for each 30 hours worked
3% retirement match
30% employee discount
Paid training
Paid parking spot ($75/value)
Free monthly Taste Tester Everything Box ($59/value)
Free daily coffee drink and treat
What you will do:
This is an active manager position—right now, it is about 50% directly serving customers and 50% managing (scheduling, training, etc).
Serving Customers: About 50% of this job is working the counter. This means you’ll be putting in time making lattes, running the register, and putting treats in boxes. It also means opening the store, closing the store (not opening and closing the same day!), cash handling, and all the other aspects of running the storefront!
Cleaning: You’ll be responsible for making sure the cafes are clean, welcoming, organized, and aesthetically appealing, with good signage. You’ll also order cleaning supplies and make sure counter staff are following the right procedures.
The other 50% of this job is management.
Scheduling/Coverage: You are responsible for making sure stores are open and adequately staffed during open hours. You will schedule shifts for the front-of-house team and you will be the “last resort” when people call in and can’t find coverage. (Our largest store is open 6 am to 8 pm).
Hiring, Training, And Supervising: You will interview new candidates and play a key role in hiring. You will also onboard people (or assign someone to train them)
Inventory/Cash Handling: You’ll be responsible for cafe-specific supplies and inventory, like milk and syrup for the coffee, boxes, bags, etc. You’ll also be responsible for festival supplies such as napkins, gloves, tent stakes, etc.
Responding To Email and Phone Calls: You’ll be taking larger phone orders, coordinating donation pickups, and other “front counter” questions.
Events: You’ll be the point of contact for making sure events run smoothly. This may involve scheduling an extra staff person to run a class, cutting a check to a musician, or arranging for extra cleaning after a get-together.
Meetings/Education: You will work directly with the owners and other top managers (head of day and night baking). We do weekly leadership meetings and quarterly strategy meetings, so you will get a big picture overview of the whole business. You will also meet one-on-one monthly with each of your direct reports to touch base on how they’re doing, help them solve problems, and grow in their career.
