What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Manager (FT w/benefits) position at Duluth's Best Bread?
Do you love working with your hands as well as training people? Do you have experience with both fast-paced physical labor and organizing systems? For an overnight bakery manager, 70% of the job is production and 30% is managerial work. We are looking for someone who enjoys moving quickly, physical labor, making good products, and helping a team get along.
$21 an hour plus benefits:
1 hour paid sick and safe time for each 30 hours worked ($0.68/hr value)
3% retirement match ($0.62/hr value)
Paid parking spot ($65/value)
Free monthly Taste Tester Everything Box ($55/value)
Free daily coffee drink and treat
Paid day off on Christmas
Production: This is a physically demanding, fast-paced production job. At least 70% of your time will be spent actively baking, packaging, and cleaning. You will be mixing doughs, shaping bread, filling almond croissants, icing, and baking. You will be putting bread and treats in bags and boxes and loading trays. It is truly a job where you will lift up to 50 pounds multiple times every shift. You will also be washing dishes! We have time goals and production targets, so above anything else, this is a production job.
Emergency Backup: You are the first designated backup if there is an emergency. If someone calls in without finding a sub, and the shift can’t get by with one fewer person that night, you are responsible for finding someone or coming in yourself, even if it’s normally your day off. (Unless you are on vacation—we do believe in work-life balance!).
Scheduling/Coordinating: You’re responsible for setting schedules. Most of the time, all our team members are on fixed schedules—the same every week. But you are responsible for staffing the shifts.
Hiring, Training, Supervising: You will interview candidates for night shift, supervise them, and oversee their training. This will include setting the pace for the daily production and quarterly one-on-one check-ins with each night shifter.
Vision/Growth: You will meet weekly with the owners and other top managers as the representative for night shift. We also do quarterly strategy meetings where you’ll see financials and help set big picture goals. Overall this is how we create better communication between the shifts, move the company and team forward, and improve conditions for everyone!
