What are the responsibilities and job description for the Team Leader, Van Driver position at Duncan Regional Hospital Inc?
The position is responsible for overseeing the van drivers at Inspirations and transportation for patients, and maintenance and repairs on vehicles. The Team Leader will train new staff, schedule the current driving team, and prepare reports for upper management. Provide patients with transportation to and from group counseling (mental health therapy) services. Transport the patient to/from their residence to the IOP, assist with physical aspects of care including walking, serving lunch, and basic hygiene.
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
- Coordinate and lead van drivers and planned routes.
- Create daily transportation schedule to ensure concise patient routes.
- Ensure timely patient pickup and drop off; Safely transport patients from their residence to the IOP (and back).
- Managing communication between drivers and team members.
- Assist drivers in problem solving in non-emergency and emergency situations.
- Assist drivers with safety-driving (defensive driving) and non-driving activities.
- Conduct weekly safety meeting with team members.
- Schedule vehicle service and repair; Keeping track of scheduled service and repairs through service log; Keep track of fuel usage and logs; Perform daily maintenance inspection and complete service log prior to departure each day; Identify needs for vehicle service and repair; Accurately complete and sign transportation log daily.
- Assist with patient toileting and encourage appropriate hand hygiene.
- Assist with serving patient lunch and snack break.
- Orient and train new team members on departmental policies and procedures.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
- This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email and navigate information technology associated with the position. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to safely operate a large motor vehicle, effectively communicate with team members and patients, follow applicable regulations, policies and/or procedures, and to work independently. Work-related experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: A current, valid drivers license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained. American Heart Association BLS required; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to obtain. CPI Training required; May have up to 60 days from date hire. CDL preferred but not required. CNA preferred but not required.
Physical Demands: Team member is regularly required to communicate with and comprehend needs of patients, providers, and others. Frequent use of hands to feel and handle items such as equipment, tools, and machines. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Significant standing and walking; occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and use of fine motor skills; Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and lift up to 40 pounds.
Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting over 40 pounds with assistance. Assistive devices (ceiling mounted lifts, portable lifts, slide boards and mattresses, gait belts, rolling chairs, etc.) are available and utilization of these devices is mandatory. To guard against injury, the team member must follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting safely. Use of personal protective equipment is required.
Ability to read information on papers and computer screens; use of a computer screen; perform repetitive motions pertaining to the use of equipment; write, operate a computer keyboard, and finely manipulate small objects; concentrate and make efficient and effective decisions; provide services to patients who may be anxious and/or under stress.
Work Environment: Generally, in an indoor setting; however, may be exposed to heat/cold/rain when transporting patients. Will transport patient to and from home and DRH facilities, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Work environment includes typical noises common in a healthcare setting. Noise level can vary from mild to moderate. Use of office equipment includes but is not limited to telephone, computer, keyboard/mouse, printer, copier. The team member is frequently exposed to medical and vehicle equipment with moving parts. May have exposure to skin, eye mucous membrane, parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials, including airborne organisms. The team member will be given the proper training, engineering and workplace practice controls, and personal protective equipment necessary for reasonable protection from these exposures. May encounter stressful conditions and patients in distress.
