The Retail Pharmacy Manager of Star Medical Pharmacy manages DRH Health’s entity-owned 340B Retail Pharmacy and fulfills the role of Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) as defined by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy lawbook. Our pharmacists play an important role in delivering medication and pharmaceutical care in communities that are most in need. This may include immunizations, patient consultation, medication therapy management, management of high-risk patients, specialty drug services, coordination of benefits, and coordination of the DRH Health employee health prescription insurance plan. The Retail Pharmacy Manager is responsible for ensuring the correct and safe dispensing of prescription medications to the general public. May also consult with and advise patients and physicians regarding prescribed and over-the-counter medications. Educates physicians, providers, nurses, and patients on appropriate medication doses, uses, side effects, cautions, and drug purposes. Supervises retail pharmacy team members to maintain good order and flow of workload. Oversees, coaches, and mentors all Retail Pharmacy team members to follow the DRH Health Standards of Behavior.
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
- Collaborates with administrative and physician leadership within DRH Health to implement pharmacist-driven clinical and dispensing services to the patients served.
- Develops and implements collaborative practice agreements to help drive patient medication compliance for high-risk patients.
- Implements best practices and ensure department compliance with 340B rules and regulations.
- Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of operations or business staff; Ensures adequate staffing is present to fulfill the needs of the retail pharmacy.
- Ensures policies are in place regarding accurate dispensing and labeling of prescriptions and those policies are followed; Ensures accurate records of all prescription medication received and dispensed.
- Ensures that security of the prescription area and its contents are maintained at all times, the reporting of any thefts and/or diversions of controlled substances are reported as required by state and federal law.
- Ensures only pharmacists provide professional consultation with patients and physicians.
- Ensures misbranded, deteriorated, adulterated, improperly stored or outdated drugs or any drugs marked ‘‘sample’’ or with any like designation or meaning are not dispensed or present in the active stock in the pharmacy; Performs drug counts and site audits of medication areas as required by state or federal agencies.
- Maintains the prescription area in an orderly and sanitary manner.
- Ensures all pharmacy team members comply with all Federal and State statutes, rules and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
- Performs the duties of a retail pharmacist including but not limited to: Reviews and enters medication orders into the EMR, ensuring the correct dose, frequency, route, dosage form, indication, and formulary status; Pursues resolution of problems with allergies, potential interactions, therapeutic duplication(s), or clinical concerns; Accurately dispenses and checks pharmacy technicians’ work to ensure the correct drug, dose, dosage form, and quantity are dispensed according to state and federal regulations as well as DRH policies and procedures; Provides accurate and appropriate drug information to the public, patients, and other healthcare professionals in a timely, professional, and thorough manner; Effectively applies knowledge of third party formulary systems, as well as the DRH Health employee health prescription insurance plan formulary, to appropriate drug product selection and formulary equivalent product suggestion for non-formulary orders. Knowledgeable and performs applicable USP 797 and USP 800 rules and regulations.
- Ensures all DRH competencies, policies and procedures, USP 797, and USP 800 rules and regulations are completed and/or followed by retail pharmacy staff.
- Orders appropriate drug quantities from main pharmaceutical distributor; Receives drug orders into the pharmaceutical distributor’s online system.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department processes and issues.
- Effectively manages workload and activities in the pharmacy, with efficiency, speed, thoroughness and organization.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
- Must adhere to, and promote, safety protocols at all times.
- Implements DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Education and/or Experience: Must have completed a B.S. or Pharm.D. pharmacy degree at an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy. A minimum of 3 years of retail pharmacy experienced required. At least 2 years of leadership experience required. 340B experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Active Doctor of Pharmacy license from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy in good standing. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
