What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Hygenist position at Duncan Technology?
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Dental Hygienist responsible for providing preventive oral health education and dental hygiene services to patients. Please note that the Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are minimum work requirements at the Family Health Center.
Assignment Location: Kalamazoo, MI
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with administrative and front desk staff to efficiently schedule hygiene patients.
- Accurately chart and assess each patient’s periodontal health.
- Provide counseling on oral health, including the importance of nutrition.
- Monitor patient comfort during treatment and alleviate any anxiety.
- Apply cavity-preventative agents, such as fluorides and sealants.
- Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis for patients.
- Record all provided treatments accurately.
- Take radiographs for patients as prescribed by the dentist.
- Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by the dental practice act.
- Perform scaling, root planning, and selective polishing on patients as appropriate.
- Review and update patient health and dental history forms as necessary.
- Ensure the treatment room is cleaned and sanitized according to sterilization procedures.
- Counsel patients on tobacco cessation.
- Securely store and manage patient records, ensuring compliance with office policies and applicable legal requirements, including HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
Typical Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Work will be performed in a clinical dental setting, with regular contact with patients and staff.
- Exposed to medicinal preparations, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common in a clinical environment.
- Requires working in a fast-paced clinical setting, which may include emergency situations or irregular hours.
- Physical demands include frequent use of hands for handling and working with dental equipment, standing, walking, sitting, and occasionally reaching or kneeling.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for the role include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
- Requested time off (RTO) must be noted and verified at upload. No more than 5 days of RTO will be accepted during the assignment, and RTO requests made after the upload will not be approved.

Non-Billable Orientation: 8 hours
Multipliers (OT, Holiday): 1.25%

Submission Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of current experience in dental hygiene required.
- Michigan Dental Hygiene License must be uploaded at the time of application.
- Associate degree in Dental Hygiene is required.
- Experience with Cavitron is required.
- Dentrix EMR experience is required.
- Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred.
- Ability to effectively interpret and communicate with patients, dentists, staff, and community members.
- Must have Microsoft Office proficiency and be capable of learning electronic healthcare systems software.
- Previous travel experience is highly preferred.
Requirements:
- License/Certifications must be uploaded with the profile (Current MI license and BLS).

- Certification(s) must be uploaded with the profile. The facility will not accept a pending license.
