The Dundee Township Park District is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to perform high-quality repair and maintenance on all District vehicles and equipment. What You’ll Do:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, including light and medium-duty vehicles, and equipment for park services operations.
- Conduct thorough and timely inspections, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of equipment conditions, repair costs, and preventative maintenance. Submit and maintain records using our work order system and other digital platforms to ensure efficient tracking and compliance.
- Operate and train staff in the safe and effective use of high-risk machinery such as chippers, chainsaws, tractors, loaders, lifts, etc.
- Procure supplies and materials, ensuring that purchasing decisions align with budget constraints.
- Perform snow and ice removal activities as required.
- Clean and maintain shop equipment and tools to ensure they are in optimal condition.
- Assist with building and grounds maintenance and repairs.
- Provide feedback and contribute to long-range planning for the Park Services Department.
- Support the Park District’s mission by maintaining the equipment that allows us to serve the community.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by management.
- Assist other Park District employees when needed.
- Perform repairs using MIG welding/oxy-acetylene torch.
- Maintain effective two-way communication with district staff and immediate supervisor while addressing concerns in the field.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
What You Bring:
- Experience: 5 years of experience with equipment maintenance or auto repairs.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Licensing Illinois Class B Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.
- Skills & Abilities:

- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to use tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently while paying attention to detail.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and lift heavy materials.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite at a novice level.
