Dundee Township Park District is looking for engaging and enthusiastic Zoo Educators to provide educational experiences about Randall Oaks Zoo animals. Whether at the zoo or out in the community, you’ll have the unique opportunity to inspire and educate guests of all ages. What You’ll Do
As a Zoo Educator, you’ll:
• Provide educational presentations about the zoo’s animals through interactive demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
• Engage with guests at the zoo or off-site through traveling educational programs.
• Ensure proper handling and transport of animals for educational events.
• Maintain records and assist with basic vehicle maintenance for traveling programs.
• Support animal care staff to ensure the well-being of the animals.
• Deliver excellent customer service while ensuring the safety of guests and animals.
• Follow all safety and zoo protocols while handling animals and interacting with visitors.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Who You Are
You're a motivated team player with:
• At least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• A high school diploma (required).
• A minimum of 6 months of experience working with animals in a zoo, farm, or shelter setting (not including household pets).
• Basic knowledge of the animal species at Randall Oaks Zoo.
• Excellent customer service, verbal communication, and public speaking skills.
• Comfort working with and handling a variety of animal species.
• The ability to stand and move for extended periods in an outdoor environment.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience (preferred but not required).
Schedule
• Seasonal part-time position, generally 30 hours per week.
• Flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Traveling programs and special zoo events may require variable hours.
