SUMMARY OF POSITION:
A Duneland School Corporation Shift Leader is required to clean, sanitize and maintain corporation properties in a safe and lawful manner. The Chesterton High School (CHS) Shift Leader has a highly visible role in the daily operations and assistance of the custodial services department. The Shift Leader is responsible for maintaining supplies, and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. The CHS Shift Leader will interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times. The Shift Leader may be required to work in other Duneland School Corporation facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Respond to requests for information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner.
- Provide exceptional service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers, and other staff members.
- Observe safety and security procedures
- Operate, maintain and sanitize equipment in compliance with local, state, federal and OSHA standards
- In the absence of the Head Custodian, conduct shift meetings, process building use forms, coordinate designated cleaning areas with other Shift Leaders, communicate with the Custodial Manager
- Conduct inspections in accordance with directives from immediate supervisor (Custodial Manager)
- Conduct cleaning of areas in accordance with local, state, federal and OSHA standard
- Locker repair
- Provide minor building maintenance and repair
- Assist Grounds Services department with grass cutting, landscape maintenance and snow removal
- Schedule and participate in group and independent training
- Promote and participate in ongoing safety and informational training
- Set up, monitor and provide service for special events arranged by Duneland School Corporation
- Maintain daily contact with the building principal regarding building activities or schedule changes
- Document attendance issues and forward along with payroll forms to Custodial Manager
- Accept delegated authority
- Provide overall property clean up
- When necessary assist with custodial services provided throughout the Corporation
- Assist with daily delivery of bulk food products and supplies
- Assist the Food Service Department in product stocking and storage
- Monitor performance of custodial staff members assigned to Shift Leader's site
- Responsible for maintaining a positive and productive work environment
- Work with Head Custodian, Custodial Manager, Director of Facilities and Human
- Resources office to resolve employee problems and complaints
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (includes equipment, hours, physical demands)
Work Environment: This position typically works in facilities with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all custodial equipment. A basic knowledge of operations concerning computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and
copiers are required.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 8 hours per day with a 30 minute lunch period. Summer hours will be adjusted as per the Superintendent to assure· adequate coverage throughout the summer period. Evening, weekend and holiday activities will be scheduled as necessary.

functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
