Batch Operator

Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating the production of quality ready mix concrete in the most safe, efficient and cost effective manner possible according to established company specifications

Essential Job Duties/Functions

• Coordinates the opening and closing of plant facilities according to established company procedures and guidelines.
• Monitors raw materials to ensure availability to meet anticipated demands to include filling bins with front end loader as appropriate.
• Performs required tests on materials to ensure compliance with stated specifications.
• Operates batch console to make ready mix concrete according to customer and company specifications.
• Ensures the efficient and safe use of personnel to complete all required tasks.
• Informs dispatch on a timely basis of any plant activity, issues or concerns that might impact customer service.
• Communicates with support departments (fleet/plant maintenance, technical services, human resources, etc…) on a timely basis to identify and resolve questions and/or issues.
• Ensures company compliance with all company, local, state and federal environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
• May assist dispatch manager with supervising plant production employees to include administering all applicable company policies and procedures.
• Assists dispatch manager with managing employee work hours in the most cost effective manner.
• Operates equipment on the plant site as needed.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to plant equipment as needed.
• Assists dispatch manager with administrative reporting to include cash sales report, delivery tickets, raw material receipts and other reports as needed/requested.
• Assists with the training of all production new hires at the site.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience (Required = R; Preferred = P)

• HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum age of 21 years old required.
• Experience in concrete production preferred.
• Current, valid state driver’s license required.
• Satisfactory driving and criminal record required.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills (oral and written).
• Demonstrated proficiency with simple math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (especially percentages) as well as measurements.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent periods of sitting in a chair.
• Frequent/occasional reaching, grabbing and pulling files and papers.
• Frequent/occasional use of fingers, wrists and hands to enter data via computer keyboard.
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional/frequent climbing of steps.
• Occasional/frequent stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling and twisting.
• Occasional pushing and pulling.
• Must be able differentiate colors.
• Must be able to hear noises.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
