Summary
Provides a safe, efficient operating facility by directing and working on installation, repair of machines, tools, equipment, building and utility systems; and enhancing and maintaining preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creates a safe work environment and builds culture by adopting and promoting rules that meet regulatory requirements and the safety of workers; by reinforcing positive safety actions while eliminating unsafe acts/programs; by working with safety committee.
  • Maintains staff job results by selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and disciplining maintenance employees; answering grievances; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; by prioritizing and scheduling maintenance work, and by working with various departments to schedule.
  • Establishes maintenance quality standards, methods, and procedures by leading maintenance operations; by supporting KPIs; by assuring department adheres to Quality Management system; by documenting department's processes, procedures and schedules; by creating and monitoring preventative maintenance, Maintenance Requisition program, Lockout/TagOut, confined spaces, electrical codes;
  • Ensures efficient and safe production operations by ensuring functionality of equipment; installing machines and equipment and guarding equipment; troubleshooting equipment; removing, changing, repairing and upgrading equipment; resolving maintenance problems by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment; by providing technical recommendations.
  • Leads and provides results for related projects by utilizing sound project management techniques; by determining objectives, priorities and scope; obtaining project approval and resource support; creating and meeting project schedules and plans, reviewing project proposals and plans, collaborating with management and various industry professionals, determining project specifications (equipment, facility layout, modifications performance standards, etc); evaluating and ordering equipment and parts; obtaining bids, contracting with vendors; monitoring cost/benefit; reporting on status. Ensures projects are aligned with business needs, processes capital expenditure requests, implements and measures success.
  • Installs, modifies and maintains capital/other equipment by implementing capital equipment initiatives and leading installation; by evaluating, troubleshooting, recommending changes to manufacturing equipment and processes; by designing, laying out, building and installing machines/parts; by designing drawings; by repairing, & maintaining equipment; by running manufacturing equipment to test functionality and repairs; by implementing capital equipment initiatives and leading installation; by confirming safety of changes/installation.
  • Procures maintenance equipment, parts, supplies and services by determining requirements; obtaining specs from various departmental personnel locating vendors; making recommendations; locating and installing effective solutions (equip, tools, parts, etc); locating outside contractors and managing related projects; by obtaining approval for purchases; by maintaining department supplies/parts inventory levels;
  • Supports product development and improvement by reviewing new product plans; discussing equipment needs and modifications with design engineers and R&D; coordinating activities of modifying machines, tools, or equipment, and by working on these modifications.
  • Maintains building by repairing facility; troubleshooting HVAC and electrical systems, performing basic repairs to code; by scheduling & evaluating building maintenance: cleaning, snow removal maintenance, and upgrades; providing improvement recommendations to management.
  • Fabricates parts by laying out, designing, installing and purchasing parts for plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, water, and hydraulic lines for facility and equipment; by operating lathe to repair/build parts; by welding and soldering; utilizing power equipment.
  • Enhances communication by keeping management informed; by preparing reports that summarize information and trends and project status; and by creating a system for documenting systems and procedures.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by communicating clearly with instructions and descriptions of problems, work to be performed, documenting actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Supports company agenda by participating in meetings and activities, customer visits and audits, contributing to team efforts, and providing additional support to Company, as necessary to meet departmental and corporate needs.

Requirements:
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate ability in – mechanical skills, analytical thinking, trouble-shooting, problem solving, preventive maintenance, machining; ; sincere effort to create safe work environment; ability to enhance interdepartmental relationships; ability to reply to immediate needs while maintaining progress of departmental, organizational objectives; diverse electrical, HVAC, machinery, and mechanical knowledge; skilled at hydraulics & pneumatics; welding basics; record keeping & organization of prints and revision history; Blueprint reading & comprehension.
  • Proven success in maintaining and upgrading equipment, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, rigging, plumbing, PLC, machinery; OSHA guarding and safety; code and regulatory compliance, managing contractors. Minimum of 5 years repairing and maintaining a variety of complex manufacturing equipment (prefer knowledge of vacuum, coating machinery); prefer HVAC/Reclaiming Refrigeration and other certifications. good building repair; supervisory experience.
  • Computer skills – Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases; CMMS systems; data analysis software, PLC and Internet search methods; BaaN or ERP preferred.

Education and Experience
  • Education as usually obtained from a high school diploma.
  • Complete Journeyman program plus 5 years' experience in diverse manufacturing facilities maintenance, or 10 years minimum related experience at advanced level; good building repair; supervisory experience.
