Accountabilities | Key Activities |
1. Process Optimization / Improvement | - Lead process optimization opportunities based on input from management, operators, customers, consumers, industry leaders, and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate all aspects of trials related to process optimization / improvement to include; defining associated costs/savings; process changes required; performing risk/benefit analysis; documenting and communicating results, conclusions and recommendations to the business.
- Lead process troubleshooting efforts which include chemical and physical analysis, data collection and analysis, fault analysis, and recommendation of corrective action.
- Evaluate and eliminate the major sources of controllable waste and broke, off-quality paper, and machine downtime. Create procedures or action plans to reduce waste sources and train operators.
- Manage Centerline control of process, update or establish Centerline parameters
- Track and analyze quality data, costs, and raw material usage to identify problems before there is a negative impact to business.
- Update production recipes to minimize costs while maintaining all quality parameters.
- Identify and assist with capital and non-capital project opportunities.

2. Quality / Product Safety | - Overall responsibility for the Mill Quality Systems and Product Safety programs
- Maintain, implement, train and document all mill quality systems
- Ensures Mill Quality testing equipment is calibrated, maintained and that operators are properly trained in their use
- Work with operations on a daily basis to troubleshoot operational difficulties which may produce off-spec product and to reduce variability of product.
- Always remain customer audit ready by leading mill GMP audit process and working with department managers and operators.
- Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner.
- Investigate customer complaints with operations to understand true root cause and develop/implement corrective action plans.
- Conduct internal audits of the quality systems.

3. Product Development | - Define desired properties for product through development of papermaking recipes and quality specifications, in coordination with sales and customer technical team
- Plan, coordinate, organize and execute trials and/or tests to qualify new products or product improvements.
- Document and communicate results, conclusions, and make recommendations to the business in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications (technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications) |
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or equivalent experience required.
- 1-3 years of experience in continuous industrial manufacturing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
- Experience with PARCview and JDEdwards is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- An understanding of papermaking test methods and data interpretation is a plus.
- Must be highly proficient with analysis of large amounts of data.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of personnel from shop floor to leadership.
